Privacy and cookies

This page says what treadnotes.co.uk does with personal data and what it puts in a visitor's browser. It is written from what the site actually does, not from a template.
The short version
The site sets no cookies. It writes nothing to local storage. It loads no analytics, no advertising pixels and no third-party scripts — even the typefaces are files served from this domain rather than fetched from someone else.
Because nothing is stored on or read from your device, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations do not require a consent banner here, and there is not one. If that changes, this page changes with it and the date above moves.
What is collected
The site is a reference. There is no account, no login and no form through which anything can be sent. No names, telephone numbers or addresses are collected.
Writing to the address below is the one exception. An email carries the sender's address and whatever the message contains, and those are kept for as long as it takes to answer and to keep a record of the correspondence. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: answering someone who has chosen to write.
Server logs
As with any web server, the hosting provider may keep technical logs of requests — IP address, time, page requested. They exist for security and for keeping the site running, not for profiling visitors, and they are not linked to anything else.
Links off this site
Links to other sites lead outside my control, and their own privacy policies apply there. Product photographs and brand logos belong to the manufacturers and retailers concerned and appear here to illustrate what is being described.
Your rights
Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation everyone has the right of access, rectification, erasure and restriction of processing, the right to object, and the right to data portability. Since there is no user database, in practice these apply to email correspondence.
To exercise any of them, write to the address below.
Complaints
Anyone who believes their data has been handled improperly can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. I would rather hear about it first, so that it can be put right.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything material is noted in the text.
